My design draws inspiration from the charming details of children’s shirts, particularly the delightful gathering and pleats. Exploring the source of children’s sense of safety, I delved into the psychological attachment to loveys, blankets, and bed sheets during early childhood. Children like to be covered by blankets and cannot fall asleep without their lovey. This behavior, born out of the desire to replicate the secure embrace of their mothers, often manifests into a lasting attachment that transcends into adulthood.
The core concept revolves around the enduring significance of these cherished items, marked by the tendency of some individuals to retain their loveys despite wear and tear. Understanding how children seek solace and comfort in these items, this deep emotional connection reminds me of my own childhood, leading me to explore the visual and tactile elements associated with well-loved objects.
The design not only captures the aesthetic charm but also delves into the senti-mental value that develops over time.
To embody these sentiments, I extract shapes from blankets and develop the silhouette by wrapping and knotting like holding a baby. The result is a garment that not only reflects the physical aspects of a well-worn blanket but also encapsulates the emotional journey embedded within such objects. The inclusion of mending textures by sanding on the lace further enhances the narrative, symbolizing resilience, nostalgia, and the beauty found in imperfections. In essence, my design encapsulates the warmth and security children feel when enveloped by their favorite blankets, creating a garment that resonates with a sense of familiar comfort and nurturing embrace.
